The 3 basketball banners at Talking Stick Resort arena are all Mercury,
as I was reminded when attending the Bob Seger concert recently.

With our three All Stars (Diana, Brittney and DeWanna) still intact,
and help for Brittney at backup Center, I have high hopes for our
Mighty Mercury to have a successful and entertaining season.

I wish Grandmama could come back and lead the cheering,
although she may no longer be able to jump on the scorers
table after victories at her age. :)

Well the Suns, after continued tanking, get only the #6 pick in the NBA draft.

So it is up to the Mercury and D-backs to play winning ball for our annual satisfaction.

DeWanna Bonner will be called upon to step up for DT as she has, and delivered, in the past.

But we will still be without #1 of our top 3 and the WNBA's G O A T. Putting more pressure
on Brittney, who has always been inconsistent.

With Diana and DeWanna getting on in years, it is a shame that we will have a half a season
of our Big 3 not together.

Griner HAS to start making the transition to making this her team. She has to become more consistent.

I like it, we needed an influx of some young blood. Mitchell will be missed but she became expendable last year when we got January.

The season begins. The Mercury with an 11-point lead, but Seattle, with tight defense, comes back to tie it at the half.

DeWanna is missing shots, trying too hard to carry the team. But the Mercury rookies look good as backup and for
the future. Brittney is inconsistent, as always.

After Seattle opened up a bigger lead, the Mercury cut it back to 8 after 3 quarters.

Damnit, Griner needs to be dominate, but hardly ever does. Which makes it easy for
Seattle to pressure Bonner. Others have to step up.

Seattle is playing great defense. And Bonners '3' cuts it to a 5-point game. She has
scored the last 12 for Phoenix. She now has 26.

It would be great if they could put it together for the final 8 minutes.

With 1:10 left, the Mercury cut the Storm's lead down to 6. Bonner with 30 points so far.

Only she and Griner have scored in the 4th quarter for the Mercury. Not good!

And Seattle wins 77-68. An uphill fight for the Mercury since the first quarter.

Their backcourt outscores the Phoenix backcourt something like 36-9.

Brittney Griner with 18 points and 8 rebounds.

Seattle's Howard with 21 points and 16 rebounds.

We've been hoping for Griner to dominate opposing
bigs for years and it hasn't happened.

Bonner had as many rebounds as Griner.

Our next game is against Las Vegas. With Liz
Cambage now their Center, they will destroy us.

And the Aces are favorites to win it all.

It is going to be a rough half season until Taurasi
returns.

Three bench points and one assist today, all from Smith. That is going to wear thin! Although the bench did provide nine rebounds. Each of
the starters had a minus. Bonner had all of our free throw attempts and shot 8-for-8.

The announcers talked about Griner being in contention for MVP this season. Not a chance. If anyone gets votes, it will be Bonner. In this
game, she led in points and 3-point shots made and tied in assists and rebounds, and was the only one to get to the free throw line.

For you Suns fans also visiting the Mercury board, I hope that
DeAndre Ayton doesn't end up to be the same type of Center
that Brittney Griner is -- stats, but not a difference maker.

And not able to take advantage of her advantages on offense
in the post.

Don't underestimate Lyttle not playting. We are a different team with her. We need to stay as high in the standings as possible until Diana gets back! This team needs to learn how to win without her, so she is the difference maker in the playoffs!

The Mercury got off to a good start vs. Las Vegas, but it is down to a 2-point game
at the end of the 1st quarter.

Liz Cambage is getting involved with her new team. Brittney Griner is no match for
her. Look out, Mercury.

Cambage not playing a lot in her first game with Las Vegas,
following her injury. She lost a lot of weight and slimmed down.

Their bench is outscoring their starters. Our bench had none.

The Mercury, to their credit, cut it to a 1-point game at the half.

January with three key 3-pointers.

Carson is my new fave player. She hit some big shots and played gritty D (particularly her weak side D). We needed this win.
