Phillies might lose Byron Buxton to Braves for this one important Atlanta reason no one has considered originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

Right now, the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves have some similar needs, as both teams are searching for a right-handed-hitting outfielder. The Phillies absolutely need one because of how poorly they've played for parts of the season, while the Braves definitely need one as well because of the injuries they've dealt with on both sides of the baseball.

The Braves will certainly be in the mix to add some of the better players at the deadline, as long as the front office is willing to move on from certain prospects.

There will be many interesting names available for both teams to pursue, though as I've previously stated, there's a very good chance we'll see a bidding war between the two as they fight for players who could fit on both rosters.

One of those guys is Byron Buxton, who Bleacher Report recently noted could be a fit in Philadelphia or Atlanta.

“We know, he's long stated that he wants to spend his entire career in Minnesota. But what if the Twins trade Joe Ryan, signaling they don't intend to compete for the remainder of Buxton's contract,” Tim Kelly of BR wrote.

“Would he say no to a chance to play for his hometown Atlanta Braves, or a veteran team like the Philadelphia Phillies?”

The hometown thing is definitely something to be mindful of here for the Phillies. Buxton has a no-trade clause and can block any deal he wants. It's possible he doesn't want to play in Philadelphia and would rather be in his hometown, though there are many benefits to playing for the Phillies as well.

Ultimately, if he wants a chance to win, either of these teams would give him a good chance of doing so, at least much more than his current situation with the Minnesota Twins.
