Whether fans want to blame Dave Dombrowski for not bringing back Carlos Estevez or Jeff Hoffman, or Jordan Romano not throwing the baseball as well as expected, and more in the Philadelphia Phillies' bullpen, the team clearly has an issue.
However, it's not time to throw blame around, as Dombrowski and the team need to figure things out moving forward. If the Phillies are going to be the team they were looking to be entering the season, the bullpen has to be better, and there's no question about it.
Speaking to reporters during the week, Dombrowski admitted that things haven't gone as planned. He also took a direct shot at Romano, saying that he doesn't care what side of the mound a pitcher throws from, how he throws the baseball, or what he does; he’s simply looking for somebody to come in and get out.

“I don’t want to sound like I’m just being dismissive,” Dombrowski said, per The Athletic. “Get outs. So, really, that’s what we’re looking to do. I don’t care if you throw left-handed, right-handed, underhanded, overhanded, get outs.”
At this point, not only is Romano struggling to get outs, but he's allowing far too many runs. The right-hander currently owns an ERA of 13.50 and has been worse than ever before.
After All-Star campaigns in 2022 and 2023, the hope was for him to be a similar arm in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, he's been brutal, posting a 7.53 FIP, 2.25 WHIP, and has allowed 14 earned runs in 9.1 innings.
It's safe to say that if something doesn't change soon, the Phillies have a major decision to make.
