The Atlanta Falcons shocked those around the league when they used a top-10 pick on running back Bijan Robinson in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. At the time, Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier was coming off of a 1,000-yard rookie season, which added to the controversy.

Three years later, Robinson has become the consensus No. 1 running back in the league. Not only did Robinson land at No. 1 in ESPN's annual poll of NFL execs, the dual-threat back took the top spot on Pro Football Focus' latest running back rankings for the 2026 season.

PFF's Dalton Wasserman and Max Chadwick praised Robinson as one of the few running backs worthy of being a top-10 pick.

"It’s rare for running backs to prove they’re worthy of a top-10 selection in the draft, but that’s exactly what Robinson has done since being taken eighth overall in 2023. His 204 forced missed tackles since entering the league are 25 more than any other back, while his 2,716 yards after contact in that span trail only Derrick Henry. Not to mention, his 1,738 career receiving yards also top the NFL as well. No running back has been more valuable than Robinson over the past two seasons, per PFF’s Wins Above Replacement metric." -- Dalton Wasserman & Max Chadwick, PFF

Robinson is the definition of a do-it-all back. While his dual-threat ability as a rusher/pass-catcher is well known, Robinson doesn't get nearly enough credit for his willingness to block and overall blocking ability. The Falcons offensive line might be one of the best in the game, but they have struggled with pass protection in recent seasons.

Having a guy like Robinson who can pick up blitzes and allow the quarterback additional time in the pocket is extremely valuable to any offense.

The former Texas Longhorns standout has lived to the hype through the first three seasons of his NFL career. Now, if the Falcons could get a little more production out of the QB position, it would help maximize Robinson's abilities.
