The Atlanta Falcons have been stuck in NFL purgatory for the last few seasons, but the team has gathered a nice stable of young players who are among the best at their respective positions. Running back Bijan Robinson, wide receiver Drake London and tight end Kyle Pitts are just entering their physical primes.
Robinson has arguably the brightest future of anyone on the roster. The former top-10 pick ascended to another level in 2025, rushing for 1,478 yards and adding another 820 receiving yards for a total of 2,298 all-purpose yards and 11 touchdowns.
While the Falcons still have question marks at the quarterback position, it hasn't impacted Robinson, who continues to produce regardless of which QB is under center. The 24-year-old is known as one of the NFL's top dual-threat backs, however, he probably doesn't get enough credit for his physicality.
PFF broke down the five best running backs after contact, with Robinson landing at No. 5 on the list.
"Any ranking of the NFL’s best running backs in virtually any category feels incomplete without Bijan Robinson," wrote PFF's Daire Carragher. "The Falcons star has established himself as one of the league’s premier all-around backs, and his ability to generate yardage after contact is no exception. Robinson’s career average of 3.5 yards after contact per attempt places him among the NFL’s leaders. Last season was particularly impressive. Robinson generated 1,133 of his 1,478 total rushing yards after contact, meaning more than three quarters of his production came after defenders got their hands on him."
The Falcons let Tyler Allgeier walk in free agency, and while this was a big loss, they didn't blink because they know what a rare talent Robinson is. PFF went on to praise the Pro Bowl running back as arguably the best in the game.
"His 4.0 yards after contact per carry slotted second in the NFL, trailing only Achane. Robinson is clearly one of the most complete backs in football," added Carragher. "He combines vision and explosiveness at a level few players can match. Defenders rarely bring him down with their first attempt, especially when he’s given additional room to operate out wide. After-contact production is only one aspect of what makes Robinson arguably the best running back in the league. Yet even within that category, he has already established himself among the NFL’s elite."
The Falcons just signed wide receiver Drake London to a four-year, $141 million extension. Many expect Atlanta to extend Robinson next, which won't be cheap. Saquon Barkley of the Eagles is currently the highest-paid running back, averaging over $20 million per season.
Robinson is currently under contract through the 2027 NFL season.
