EAST LANSING — The Pewamo-Westphalia girls basketball team was right where it wanted to be.
The Pirates entered the final quarter in a tie game and found itself with a chance to capture a state championship.
But things eventually slipped away.
Ad that led to P-W's strong season coming to a close with a 52-36 loss to Jackson Lumen Christi in the Division 3 state final on Saturday, March 21 at Michigan State's Breslin Center.
Lumen Christi went on a 12-2 run over the opening five minutes of the final quarter.to gain control of a game that was deadocked at 34 after three quarters while pulling away to capture the state title.
P-W didn't have a field goal in the final quarter and its lone pints came on a pair of free throws by Alonna Thelen.
Elly Bengel had 12 points to lead the Pirates.
Kenna Hunt finished with a game-high 21 points for Lumen Christi and hit a 3 to start the fourth quarter that started the strong finish for the Titans.
