The Maple Leafs remain mired in what feels like the largest head coaching search ever as they look to replace Craig Berube.

The Oilers are still looking after dismissing Kris Knoblauch.

The 61-year old Laviolette wasn't a head coach in 2025-26, but he heads back behind a bench for next season.

He most recently spent two seasons leading the New York Rangers.

All told, Laviolette has coached in 1,594 games between the Rangers, Predators, Hurricanes, Flyers, Capitals and Islanders. This will be his first gig far out West -- although Nashville does play in the Western Conference.

He has a career record of 846 wins, 562 losses, 25 ties and 161 overtime losses.

Laviolette led the Hurricanes to the Stanley Cup in 2005-06.

He also had conference championship teams with Philly (2009-10) and Nashville (2016-17).

Now, Laviolette will lead the Kings into a new era following the retirement of Anze Kopitar.

Meanwhile, Toronto and Edmonton are still looking.
