The head boys' basketball coach at Peoria High School was released from the Peoria County Jail on Wednesday, two days after his arrest on solicitation charges.
Daniel C. Ruffin, 41, of Dunlap was charged with one felony count of indecent solicitation of a child and another felony count of grooming Wednesday, two days after he was arrested on allegations that he had sent inappropriate text messages to a 16-year-old student.

However, the Peoria County State's Attorney's Office and John Lonergan, who represents Ruffin, agreed to have him released on conditions, a request that was granted by Peoria County Circuit Judge David Brown. Conditions include: GPS electronic monitoring, no contact with the victim, no unsupervised contact with minors not in his immediate family, and no communications via text or social media with minors not in his immediate family.
The Peoria Police Department said that at 9:23 a.m. Monday, they responded to Peoria High after they received a report of the alleged solicitation by a school employee. Officers spoke with the girl and with Ruffin. During the investigation, officers viewed "text message communications on the teen’s phone that were determined to be inappropriate in nature," according the Peoria Police Department.
Ruffin was arrested and transported to the Peoria County Jail, where he remained until Wednesday's hearing.Marjorie Kauth, a Peoria Public Schools spokeswoman, on Tuesday said Ruffin was placed “on unpaid leave pending the investigation." Ryan McElmurry was appointed as the interim head basketball coach for Peoria High.
Ruffin is set for arraignment on March 12 at 9 a.m.
