Among the major changes the New England Patriots roster has undergone this offseason has been at the wide receiver position.

After making the decision to release Stefon Diggs after a 1,000-yard season, New England signed Romeo Doubs in free agency to a four-year, $68 million contract. Doubs now projects as a key part in replacing Diggs and will join a depth chart that includes Kayshon Boutte, Kyle Williams, Mack Hollins, and Efton Chism III.

Even with a crowded depth chart, additions may not be done and one big fish remains on the market with Eagles’ wide receiver A.J. Brown. The results of the latest SB Nation Reacts survey show that 79% of participants think the Patriots should make the trade to acquire the star wideout this offseason.

The comment section, however, shows a larger split in opinions.

Nothing. WR is not a priority. I need a right tackle, edge, LB, CB and safety before I even think about WR. The 2027 draft is supposed to be the WR draft. We should be in position to use our first pick next year to try for a #1.

With ’26 being a receiver rich draft I would go that route instead of overpaying for an aging one with bad knee(s).

A second rounder plus Chism or Pop.

I would trade him, but I wouldn’t give up a first. The first this year will be vital for trade back and/or filling needs. The first next year will be in a strong draft, making me even less likely to want to deal it.

A second rounder seems nowhere near enough, however, so there would be more pick stock on top of that. My limit for that would materialize as a fourth rounder this year and/or third rounder next year, in addition to the second round pick this year. I wouldn’t trade any major players.

My fear is that this trade would involve more of next year’s draft picks. The plus side is those could be more valuable, meaning we have to give up less in draft board early pick value. The practical issue with this is maybe missing out on better prospects. If you keep the 2027 first, you can probably trade back and make it work. But if you give up both a 2027 second rounder and a 2027 third and/or 4th rounder, that would make it a tough draft.

A 2nd and possibly a 4th in this year’s draft

Sorry he’s fighting his age and knee injuries that’s a battle he can’t win , better off with 2-3 very good #2’s then 1 over priced broken down # 1

All in all, this week’s survey results look as follows:

The price to acquire Brown remains a question. The Eagles’ will undoubtedly ask for a first-round pick for the receiver who has posted four straight 1,000-yard seasons. But, with Brown entering his age 29 season and with some questions about a lingering knee injury, New England may not want to part with that draft capital.

Other factors that will come into play when discussing compensation is when this trade takes place. Due to cap reasons, Philadelphia may need to trade Brown after the June 1 designation in order to spread the dead money cap hits over two seasons. That would likely result in New England surrendering 2027 draft capital, which is largely viewed as a more talented draft than 2026.

Patriots fans would currently favor trading this year’s second-round pick (No. 62) in addition to a potential player — such as Kayshon Boutte. 27% of participants would surrender pick No. 31 while just 15% are comfortable moving the team’s 2027 first-round pick.

Currently on FanDuel Sportsbook, the Patriots have the fifth-best odds to win the AFC next season — trailing just the Ravens, Bills, Chiefs and Chargers. An addition of Brown would likely see those odds increase.
