The New England Patriots made an interesting roster move on Monday, releasing veteran running back Antonio Gibson.

The move saved $3.1 million in cap space, as Gibson was entering the final year of his three-year contract with no guaranteed money remaining, as well as coming off a torn ACL.

Throughout his time with the Patriots, he finished with 644 rushing yards, 212 receiving yards and two touchdowns, as well as returning 21 kickoffs for 581 yards and a touchdown across 22 games.

With this, it leaves Rhamondre Stevenson, TreVeyon Henderson, Terrell Jennings, and Lan Larison as the remaining running backs on the roster.

Stevenson and Henderson are the top two running backs on the roster, but they will be looking for someone to step into the No. 3 spot. There is also a big hole on the kickoff team, as it became clear down the stretch that the Patriots didn't have a true threat without Gibson.
