CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) – The defending NJCAA DII national champions will have a new leader in the 2026-27 season.

Parkland College men’s basketball is promoting Jimmie Daly as its next head coach. The Cobras make this move after former head coach John Bowler accepted a job as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Eastern Michigan.

Bowler and Daly confirmed this news on social media, with Bowler showing his support for the new hire in Champaign.

“There is no one more qualified to continue the culture at Parkland than the man who helped build it,” Bowler said, in response to news of Daly’s promotion. “Very well deserved [and] earned.”

Bowler led the Cobras for four seasons, including a national runner-up finish in 2025 and an NJCAA DII national title in 2026.

Daly takes over the program after serving as an assistant for Bowler for each of the last two highly successful seasons. He previously worked as an assistant at NCAA DII Rogers State in Oklahoma.

Daly, a graduate of UNLV, was a student manager and later a graduate assistant coach for the Runnin’ Rebels. In Las Vegas, he learned under TJ Otzelberger and Kevin Kruger. Otzelberger is now the head coach at Iowa State, while Kruger joined Brad Underwood’s staff at Illinois ahead of the 2025-26 season.
