The NFL may have overlooked Jalen Coker for the last time.
Last week, the Carolina Panthers and the third-year wide receiver reached a contract extension. The new pact will add three years and $34 million onto Coker's existing one-year agreement, keeping him in Charlotte through 2029.
Coker joined a recent episode of The Insiders on NFL Network to talk about the deal. Host Tom Pelissero asked the 24-year-old, who went undrafted before joining the Panthers in the spring of 2024, what everybody missed about him.
"That's a good question. I'm not sure. I am not sure," Coker replied with a smile. "Even from coming out of high school, going into college—I always felt like I had all the tangibles. Everything that I could do on the field, I did it at a high level.
"It's their loss, though. And that's why I'm here in Carolina and that's why we're gonna win a lot more football games."
The Panthers won eight football games in 2025, the most since their last run to the playoffs in 2017. Thanks in huge part to Coker, they almost won another—as he recorded 134 receiving yards and a late go-ahead touchdown in the near-upset of the Los Angeles Rams in the wild-card round.
This past January's outing may have marked the beginning of a breakout for Coker, who seems likely to enter the 2026 campaign as Carolina's No. 2 target. And considering where he was (or wasn't) following Day 3 of the 2024 NFL Draft, that's not too shabby for a player who—apparently—wasn't worth a pick.
