Report: Panthers, rising WR Jalen Coker agree on NFL contract extension originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Before departing for summer break Thursday, Carolina Panthers wide receiver Jalen Coker reportedly agreed to a contract extension with an approximate $7 million raise.
Poised to make $1.075 million in 2026, Coker's new deal calls for the third-year professional to earn $8.75 million per season, according to The Charlotte Observer. Including bonuses, he could earn up to $6 million more.
An undrafted free agent out of Holy Cross, Coker stood out during 2024 training camp and initially earned a spot on the practice team. When eventually activated, Coker collected 32 catches for 478 yards and two touchdowns, establishing himself as one of the team's top-five receivers.
During the final week of training camp last season, Coker was on the verge of breaking the starting lineup, while splitting time on special teams, when he suffered a quad strain that sidelined him for the first six games last season.
When he returned, Coker and eventual NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Tetairoa McMillan formed a formidable duo for quarterback Bryce Young, who established a career-best campaign. Paced by the offensive trio, the Panthers (8-9) captured the NFC South title.
Coker, 24, steadily improved throughout the second half last season, finishing with 33 catches, 394 yards and three touchdowns. The 6-foot-3, 213-pounder broke out in the NFC Wild Card loss to the Los Angeles Rams, recording nine catches for 134 yards and a score.
The Panthers wrapped up their offseason training activities (OTAs) Thursday and started their summer break. The team will report for training camp on July 22.
