Wow.. GOOD showing by Oregon State there.

I'm equally impressed by Stanford's poopy showing. Lemme tell ya, the Pac 10's looking on the up and up this year in hoops.

I wondered if anyone caught that - Tech is a good team from a smaller conference - the OVC is a very good mid-major basketball conference, but to get blown out by them is pathetic.

Told you Stanford was overrated. :D

To be fair they had to play without Haryasz but they got run and Irvine was missing their leading scorer. Trent Johnson sounds like Walt Harris after the football team lost to Davis, in shock.

Cal was without both Powe(stress fracture in foot) and Rod Benson.

UCLA won without Farmar(ankle) but if they have to play Memphis without him they could be the next Pac10 school with a big loss. Memphis looked really good against Alabama, would be a nice test early, hopefully Farmar will be able to play.

And you were right, Stanford does suck. Getting blown out by Montana is inexcusable no matter where the game is played. I'm nearly 100% sure they'll find a way to beat Arizona at leat once like they always do, but I wonder how long it's going to be before Trent Johnson gets his spot on the infamous hot seat. We could see a lot of Pac-10 jobs opening up this March.

The Pac-10 rankings sure mean a lot seeing in that no Pac-10 teams have played each other yet. Nice try though Brian, technically every Pac-10 team is tied for first and last place..

Stanford lost again this weekend to no other than an 0-4 UC Davis team.

Washington looks like the real deal. It didn't take too long for UW to beceome a basketball school.

Scary UCLA beats a lousy team by 12, and Stanford loses to Davis. And UCLA had Farmar back earlier than expected.

UW is the only Pac 10 team playing well right now, of the teams expected to be at the top that is.

More telling than the standings would be the Power Ratings (from this morning's USA Today):

Washington - 8
Arizona - 26
Oregon - 51
UCLA - 63
California - 102
Washington State - 105
Arizona State - 120
Oregon State- 136
So California - 138
Stanford - 201

Pac-10, as a conference, is ranked 7th (just behind the Missouri Valley and just ahead of the Mountain West).

And the Missouri Valley picked up two huge wins last night - Northern Iowa beat a ranked Iowa team, and Indiana State beat #17 Indiana.

I am intrigued by the UCLA/Michigan game this weekend.

Is Michigan (7-0) for real?

Good road test for a banged up UCLA team

Really tough game for UCLA, potential trap for Michigan. Early start for UCLA, terrible weather which makes it even tougher, and several members of UCLA's team have to take finals tonight so the timing of the game is horrible.

Fey is out, Aboya is out, Mata is unlikely so they have only Wright and Hollins at C.

I think UCLA is actually deeper than Michigan but Michigan's starting 5 is probably better right now due to UCLA's injuries.

One of those games where UCLA either comes out flat and gets run, or Michigan falls for the trap and loses.

Just like Cal/Kansas last week, people wonder why pac 10 teams don't play more non conference road games against good teams, because the good teams always intentionally screw them by starting the games so early.

you think Michigan would agree to play at UCLA at 9pm west coast time?

Current Sagrin Ratings (includes Stanford and U of A wins last night):

12 Washington
19 UCLA
30 Arizona
92 Washington State
98 Oregon
114 California
121 USC
158 Oregon State
203 Arizona State
218 Stanford

Pac 10 is ranked 7th (Big 12 6th and Atlantic 10 8th....Missouri Valley is up to 5th Jon).

Big drop off from third to fourth school in Pac-10.

The Pac-10 was looking at a banner day on Saturday. Nice wins for UCLA, Oregon State, and Arizona to start the day. Unfortunately the JV squad in Tempe and Stanford had to crap the bed for the rest of the conference that night. Somebody needs to get Rob Evans out of this conference. He's screwing up the RPI for every program that actually has expectatons.
