In case you don't know, Jason Peters is an offensive tackle for the Eagles. In yesterday's game, the Deadskins Chris Baker laid out Nick Foles in a cheap shot that was reminiscent of the Demps hit on KW in the 2008 NFC Championship game. Totally unnecessary and it wouldn't surprise me that this was in result of a bounty on Foles. Anyhoo, after the hit, Peters, without missing a beat, went after Baker and even got tossed in the process. I want to see more of this. Players, especially offensive linemen, are supposed to stick up for their QB. I hope Foles picks up the fine check Peters is about to get hit with.

Peters wasn't having any of it, would hope any OL that saw that go down with their QB would react the same way.

Well worth the fine that he may get after this.

Getting yourself tossed and getting your team penalties in the name of sticking up for your guy is a good way to lose football games. If that had cost the Eagles the game I don't think Foles or anyone else would be bragging about how Peters stuck up for his QB there. I'd much rather my guy wait until the next play and get revenge when it's legal.

I believe you can stick up for your teammates without causing a brawl but it turned it not to hurt them. Foles hung it the pocket like a champ that game.

Though he was not the LT we needed, I remember Levi Brown getting in the faces of the DL after they roughed up our QB... though he was often the cause for them getting to our QB lol

I want my OL coming at oppossing players who are taking cheap shots at my QB. It becomes a problem if it happens on more fringe plays.

Exactly.

I'm kinda fired up now just watching that.

What I love about that play is Peters isn't even close to the play, but must have seen it and just thought OH.... HELL NO! Charged from a ways away.

What I found bothersome was that no other player did a thing about it. They all just stood around not knowing what to do. Peters game from about 15 yards away. I hope those players milling around got an earfull after the game. And, yes, getting tossed and picking up a penalty(off setting at this point) is worth it win or lose. I'm quite sure Chip Kelly is in agreement with this. You must protect your QB. The next hit he might not get up. You have to show future opponents that cheap shots like that will be met with ill humor.

Would your opinion be the same if it was the last seconds of the game and he does that and takes his team out of FG range? Is sticking up for your QB worth costing yourself the win?

Just look at that SF game for evidence of how to handle this stuff. There were some cheap shots on Stanton. Did our guys go in there and get ejected? No, they got in SFs face a little but ultimately didn't commit any penalties and instead we were the one moving down the field because SF was getting personal fouls. I'd much rather we keep doing that than start getting ourselves ejected and giving away yardage with personal fouls.

Sometimes principles trump rules and laws.

And winning games trumps that. You'd really rather potentially lose the game by doing that than win the game?

I agree, that was awesome, penalty or not penalty. Granted, I am an enormous Foles homer since he is likely the best QB to date to have played for U of A, but that stuff just isn't necessary. That kind of crap cost us Kurt Warner. No one deserves that, especially not a guy like Foles who is one of the best guys out there, and plays his ass off for his team.

Only 63 saw it. The rest of the players had their back to the play. Once they realized what happened, the brawl ensued.

I subscribe to this type of behavior! Well done, he can be my wing man any day!

Goes way beyond the importance of the win...

I'm all in on protecting your QB.

Warner got blindsided by the Saints and nobody did crap, then he gets knocked around later on questionable hits. Yes, it's worth it to let the opposing team know you won't allow your franchise player to be knocked around.

If our players had retaliated maybe he doesn't take those hits later. I was mad about that and still am--not at the Saints but at our own players for not retaliating. We had a soft team. There's no denying it.

And it's not just to send other teams a message. You have to send your own QB a message. That we have your back, we won't let anyone do you wrong. Warner knew nobody had his back and retired. For God's sake Whis let him test the market with the 49ers. Hahaha. A HOF QB!!!! Then nobody sticks up for him after that hit and no offensive line. He said F this and retired. Don't think for a minute Peyton Manning didn't know that and said I think I'll just go to Denver where John Elway respects Quarterbacks. Truth.

First thing that entered my mindwhn I watched the video. Too bad no Cardinal lineman did that for Warner. As a coach I would have had no problem with what Peters did.

Was not the right call. Baker hit him to hit him. Dude want to knock him out of the game. Peters is the man for sticking up for his qb.
