I have no problem with Blount being suspended for the rest of the year. You just don't haul off and punch a dude, there's no place for that in college football. I do however feel that Byron Hout should be suspended for at least 2 games as well for taunting Blount. There is no room for taunting either. Hout could be seen saying something to Blount and then laughing with his teammates before Blount wiped that crap eating grin off his face. That was kind of cool, but now he has to pay a steep price and the guy who started the whole thing gets nothing.

eh, Blount was talking crap all offseason, so you could say he really started it. Hout was giving him a little piece of what he had to hear all offseason

Agreed, if Hout shuts up and takes his shower, none of this mess happens.

Bull! Taunting and shittalk is a part of football. Always has been always will. Doesn't warrant a sucker punch. At all!

So Hout is also to blame for Blount trying to rush the fans in the stands and for hitting his own teammate who tried to restrain him...and for struggling to break free from the police escort from the field? If Blount went home and kicked his dog...does the blame fall on Hout also?

Man that Hout has a lot of influence.

Blount has talked trash ever since Boise crushed them last season in their own house. Said "We play them in their place next time and we owe them an ***-whooping."

Then they go there and get beat pretty soundly.

All Hout allegedly said was "I guess you owe us two ***-whoopings now."

Blount should have manned up and walked off determined to be a better player and help his team play better, but he couldn't because quite simply - he's a thug. He's had trouble fighting in the past and has a short temper.

I don't blame Hout at all. He was celebrating a win and making a comment to the opponent's biggest trash talker.

He didn't deserve to be punched for that.

It's all on Blount, IMHO.

Blount made a huge mistake in judgement, but with that being said the Boise dude taunted him and gave him a little shove to the shoulder when Blount wasn't really looking either.

I would venture to say that if somebody randomly did that to many of us on the street, we may react with a punch as well.

exactly Shane. its part of every sport. when I play lacrosse I talk alllot, its part of the way I play. When I got cheapshotted (coughSaguaroHighSchoolcough), I won the battle while the rook who can't control himself was sitting in the box.

Wow. Really? You tell your kids it is all right to taunt their opponents after games? If it is 'part of the game' then why is taunting a penalty at every level of football? Because it leads to incidents like we saw last night, that's why.

I coach kids sports and I teach my players to respect their opponents and the officials, but most of all to respect the game, something Hout failed to do. Maybe I'm just old fashioned.

Blount deserves his punishment, but Hout deserves punishment as well.

Where in there did I say I teach my kids to talk smack? Many on here can attest exactly what my kids are like and how they behave.

What I said very clearly is that taunting is apart of sports and always will be. That won't change. My kids are and will be taught to ignore it. However the punch was completely unwarranted no matter how you slice it. Way to turn this into issues with my parental integrity.

Hout got what he deserved. The clown was a poor sport and got embarrassed on TV. Talking smack during a game is entirely different than seeking someone out after the final whistle and being a little bitch. Blount was definitely wrong, but Hout sunk ot his level and two wrongs dont make a right.

I wouldnt call it completely unwarranted, I cant say I wouldnt sock some dude if he came up hit my pads and laughed in my face... thats just looking for trouble after a heated game.

Eh punching someone should be legal given what I've heard some people say this day and age.

Have no idea what was said, could go either way but we excuse too much in the way of taunts these days IMO.

Where Blount went completely wrong was going after crowd and trying to break free from police...

Had he simply punched the other guy, he probably would've only been suspended until conference play IMO...

Yeah that.

It's cool to talk crap, but do it between the whistles, not after the game. I do believe Blount got what he deserved, but what Hout did is not part of the game, is classless and he should be suspended as well. I wasn't aware of Blount's off season antics, but if I'm Hout I keep my mouth shut at the end and Blount looks even more silly. Did Blount have a shot at the NFL before this happened, or no?

Yes, and I'm sure he still does.

Who cares. Some guy ran his mouth and got popped. It isn't the first time it's happened and it won't be the last.

What should be noted is that it was Oregon that handed down the year long suspension. And Boise would be the one that would have handed down a subsequent suspension for Hout. At least as of now there wasn't one governing body (NCAA) that decided to suspend Blount and not Hout.

I too think Hout got what was coming. Simple cause and effect. Blount is also paying a high price and I'm not sure the crime fit the punishment. But you allow others to make those decisions for you when you act out like that.

Still I think Chris Peterson dropped the ball on this. He should have sent a message that it's NOT okay to seek out an opponent after you just beat them and continue to rub it in their face.

But that's JMHO

Agreed. Hout is a piece of dog crap. It's standard practice in football to leave the **** talk for the game and to be the bigger man when you've beaten an opponent. Hout should be suspended as well.

I can give a dang if someone insults you, taunts you or whatnot, there is no reason to throw blows for any reason other than defending yourself, your family or someone else from imminent harm or unless you're gettin paid to do so. This thug mentality of 'I have to defend my honor and manhood' is all a bunch of crap. It's just stroking your own ego. Blount didn't get punished enough, he shoulda faced assault charges imo.

I'm not going to comment on Hout because I wasn't within earshot to hear what he actually said.
