Oregon Ducks quarterback Dante Moore turned 21 back in May and he celebrated the big day on the southern Oregon coast playing golf at Bandon Dunes.
“It’s my favorite,” Moore said. “Golf is very, very tough. There’s some days I can shoot 86 and some days I can shoot 120. But it’s just a game and as a quarterback it’s great. … It’s just a way for me to decompress.”
Moore said during his team's recent training camp there’s a peacefulness that comes with being on the golf course, and for a player constantly in the limelight, those moments are precious. By the sound of it, they’re also over for the time being.
“Just being able to go out there and connect with the Earth and be able to just ease my mind,” Moore said. “But you know, it’s fall camp time, so I’m dialed in. It was great and I can’t wait to do it again.”
Moore started playing golf in June 2025 and has worked his way down to a 16 handicap.
Moore is returning to the Ducks for the 2026-27 season, having opted to forgo a chance at the 2026 NFL Draft to return to Oregon this past spring.
With just over a month until the Oregon football team begins its 2026 season against Boise State, Ducks' coach Lanning continued his preseason media tour in the friendly confines of Autzen Stadium for UO's annual media day Aug. 3.
In addition to talking about Moore, the fifth-year coach also addressed which position battles he's most excited for heading into the season.
Lanning has been quick to compliment his experienced quarterback, Moore, who completed 71.8% of his passes for 3,565 yards and 30 touchdowns last season. Moore enters his third year in the Ducks' system as the potential top pick in the 2027 draft next spring.
When asked how the Ducks plan to develop Moore further, Lanning elaborated that they'll throw "the kitchen sink" at Moore to see how much he can handle while balancing playing to strengths and running simple concepts like inside zone and four verticals.
"Dante has a ton of experience," Lanning said. "We’re going to add wrinkles every year on both sides of the ball and special teams. So there’s new things that we haven’t done in the past that we’re going to do now. There’s certainly a lot that Dante can handle, but then there’s times when you just say, ‘Hey, let’s just call inside zone and let him hand the ball off.’
"All the stress shouldn’t be applied to Dante. But he’s capable of a lot so we’re going to give him a lot."
