The Oklahoma Sooners became the fastest team to hit 100 home runs in a season when Ella Parker launched her two-run bomb in OU's 2-1 win over Louisiana on Sunday. It was Parker's 11th of the season, which is tied for second with Gabbie Garcia, who led Oklahoma in home runs a season ago. They're having great seasons, but a big reason the Sooners have already hit 103 home runs in 26 games is due to true freshman catcher Kendall Wells.
Wells leads the Sooners with 19 home runs and, for the second time this season, was named National Freshman of the Week. The first honor came from D1Softball a couple of weeks ago, and this time, it's Softball America providing the recognition. Her 19 home runs lead the nation.
Last week, the former five-star from Georgia hit four home runs and drove in seven as the Sooners went 5-0. She was also 4-for-12, walked three times, and scored five runs. Over the last two weeks, she has had nine home runs in Oklahoma's 10 games.
The Sooners are back in action on Tuesday night against Tulsa and then open the SEC portion of their schedule with a three-game series at Love's Field this weekend.
