Zero reason to end his season now for an MCL injury. With surgery, its an 8-12 week recovery and we're still 3 weeks from the regular season. Cardinals are withholding the whole story again. No way it's just an MCL. Just because you give a player a designated for return status when the season starts, they don't have to return.

The Cardinals are the only team whose players routinely miss entire seasons (or more) for MCL tears.

I’m fine with it. They know more than we do. Let him focus on his rehab rather than hustle him back for the last four or five games.

My rant was more about the lack of actual any information from the Cardinals. They seem to let the players take a hit because the fans believe they aren't coming back fast enough. Kyler's injury was the only one they were transparent about and I am 100% that was only to ensure they sold tickets in his comeback year.

. MCL and ACL Tears

What it is:

These knee ligaments provide stability for sudden cuts, pivots, and tackles. MCL injuries usually occur from a side hit, while ACL tears often result from twisting motions.

Recovery timeline:

An MCL Rupture is not 3-6 months. Mine was 8 week before I was 100% cleared.

GradeDescriptionTypical Recovery TimeKey Rehabilitation Focus
Grade 1Mild stretch with microscopic fiber damage; knee remains stable1–3 weeksRest, ice, compression, elevation (RICE), gentle range-of-motion exercises, stationary cycling, light strengthening
Grade 2Partial tear; knee may feel slightly loose3–6 weeksBracing, physical therapy to restore strength and mobility, gradual weight-bearing, controlled lateral movements
Grade 3Complete rupture; significant instability8–12+ weeksIntensive physical therapy for dynamic stability, high-load eccentric training, deceleration drills.

In the HOF game, Austin Keyes, was one defender who had a decent game. He didn't play in LV and now I see he's been put on IR. Wish him and Chase all the best.

Cleared for what? Playing the most taxing sport on knees at the highest professional level with a 315 pound body? He is a rookie, he has an entire career ahead of him. Do this wrong now and it plagues him his entire career. We understand what the Cardinals are doing.

NFL rules only allow a player to be designated for return twice in their career. He is having surgery. MCL with surgery is usually 3+ months in the NFL and he is a rookie. He is also 6-5 315 pounds. That is a lot of torque on knee ligaments.

Easy. The team can tag him to be able to return in season. Decision just before season start.

No one says he’s out for the year yet

If he does on IR in camp, he can’t come back

Designation for return is made at the 53 man roster cut down date. That hasn't happened yet.

If they place him on IR right away then he cannot come back. Did he actually get formally placed on IR already or did they just say he is going to IR?

IR before week 1 = out for season
IR after week 1 starts = can be designated for return

This is why some guys get cut at the last minute with a wink and nod that they'll be resigned immediately, because the team needs a roster spot to carry an injured player they want to IR with return designation. This happened with Aaron Brewer pretty much every year.
