NEW YORK — As the Mets added another name to the injury report, Carlos Mendoza was not willing to make excuses for the team's uneven performance.

While Tyrone Taylor will be on the shelf "week to week" with a right hip flexor strain, the Mets will have Jared Young and A.J. Minter returning from the injured list on Tuesday night.

The Mets, who will also see Juan Soto return after a two-game absence with an illness, are looking to snap a four-game losing streak at 7:10 p.m. on Tuesday against the Reds at Citi Field.

"It's part of managing - finding ways," Mendoza said. "I can sit here and say, 'Man, I wish I had that guy.' That's not it. My job is to get the best out of the 26 (players) that are on the active roster. Every day's a challenge, whether you have your 26 that you broke camp with or you go through adversity. That's how you earn it."

It has been a grind for the Mets, who have given back all the ground they made up with a successful homestand last time around. Now, following a 2-5 road trip against the Nationals and Marlins, the Mets dropped their opening game of the series to the Reds.

The Mets enter Thursday night at 22-32 - the fourth-worst record in Major League Baseball.

David Peterson will look to play the role of stopper on the heels of a bounce-back start in his return to the rotation last time out. He held the Nationals to one earned run on four hits and three walks in five innings and earned the win in his most recent start.

But it will be a challenge for the Mets' offense to find its footing as they face one of the top arms in the National League in Chase Burns. The Reds 23-year-old righty enters the night with a 6-1 record, 1.83 ERA and 0.95 WHIP. He has turned in five straight quality starts.
