NEW YORK — The Mets could use the help offensively.
In Monday night's 7-2 loss to the Reds, Tyrone Taylor was lost to a right hip flexor tendon joined the likes of Francisco Lindor, Francisco Alvarez, Jorge Polanco, Luis Robert Jr. and Ronny Mauricio on the injured list on Monday.
As the Mets play the second game of their series at 7:10 p.m. on Tuesday night, the Mets saw the reinstatement of Jared Young from a torn meniscus and A.J. Minter back from his torn lat suffered last season.
Juan Soto also returned to the lineup after missing the last two games with an illness. He'll bat third and serve as the team's designated hitter. Young was in the lineup at first base, batting fifth.
In corresponding moves to bring back Young and Minter, the Mets optioned Nick Morabito and Jonathan Pintaro.
The Mets could use the lift after they have scored a combined six runs in their last five games. They enter Tuesday on a four-game losing streak.
The Mets' starting pitcher is still to be determined, but David Peterson would appear to be lined up to eat multiple innings as either a starter or behind an opener. Peterson held the Nationals to one run on four hits and three walks in five innings and earned the win in his return to a starting role last time out.
The Mets offense's task of finding its form will not get any easier on Tuesday as they go up against the Reds' young ace.
Chase Burns has been one of the best pitchers in the National League through 10 starts. The 23-year-old right-hander is 6-1 with a 1.83 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 64 strikeouts in 59 innings.
Burns has turned in five straight quality starts, including holding the Phillies to one run on three hits and striking out nine last time out against the Phillies.
