NEW YORK — The Mets did not wallow in the news of Clay Holmes' extended absence. They stepped up in the wake of it.

The Mets grabbed the second game of the Subway Series, 6-3, on Saturday night behind a clutch relief appearance from Luke Weaver and three RBI from Mark Vientos.

Now, the Mets have a chance to win their fourth series in their last five in the rubber game against the Yankees at 1:40 p.m. on Sunday at Citi Field.

Freddy Peralta will take the ball for the Mets, making his 10th start. Peralta is coming off back-to-back wins and enters with a 3-3 record and 3.10 ERA. The right-hander allowed two earned runs on seven hits and one walk with seven strikeouts across six innings last time out against the Tigers.

Yankees rookie right-hander Elmer Rodriguez is making his third career start following the news of Max Fried's injury. Rodriguez allowed three earned runs in 4⅔ innings in his last major league start against the Rangers on May 5.
