Surprise, surprise: Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett was named the Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year during NFL Honors on Thursday evening. Garrett broke the single-season record with 23 sacks in 2025.

Denver Broncos outside linebacker Nik Bonitto was also a finalist for DPOY, but his 14 sacks — while still impressive — did not stack up to Garrett's total. Bonitto did receive a Pro Bowl nod and was named to the Pro Football Writers of America All-Pro team following the 2025 campaign.

Meanwhile, Denver defensive coordinator Vance Joseph was a finalist for Assistant Coach of the Year, but that honor went to New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. Joseph finished second in AP voting.

Joseph did take home PFWA's Assistant Coach of the Year award last month.

Joseph's defense ranked third in points allowed per game (18.3), second in yards allowed per contest (278.2) and first in sacks (68) this season. New England's offense ranked third in yards per game (379.4) and second in points per contest (28.8).

Joseph surprisingly did not land one of the NFL's 10 head coach openings this offseason, and he now appears poised to remain with the Broncos for another season.
