The Kansas City Chiefs have made their bones as a prolific offense throughout the Patrick Mahomes era, but a down year for the team in 2025 makes their scoring prowess the focus for the upcoming season.

According to the NFL’s Matt Okada, the number that could potentially define the Chiefs' 2026 campaign is 30.1; a reference to Kansas City's points-per-game mark from 2018-22 under then-offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.

”With Eric Bieniemy at OC from 2018 to 2022, the Chiefs led the NFL with 30.1 points per game,” Okada said. “In the three years since, they averaged just 21.9 points per game (19th). Bieniemy has returned for 2026, and it will be interesting to see how much his contributions to the game plan affect K.C.’s offensive output.”

Kansas City averaged 21.3 points per game last season, which ranked No. 19 in the league. With Bieniemy back in town, a higher-scoring season may materialize in 2026, which will make the Chiefs a stronger Super Bowl contender.
