This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with ESPN NFL analyst and former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith.
In his interview with Easton Jr., Smith discusses his partnership with global health leader Abbott and Real Madrid's "Abbott Dream Team" campaign. He also shares his praise for Eric Bieniemy returning as the Chiefs' offensive coordinator.
"I definitely use (nutrition tips) as a parent, I'm not sure how successfully I use them as a parent, but I try," said Smith, "I think it's just invaluable information for young 18-19 year old kids that have big dreams, and this (Abbott Dream Team) is certainly something that can help them."
Bieniemy spent nine years as an assistant coach and coordinator with Kansas City before leaving ahead of the 2023 season. He played a vital role as the Chicago Bears' running backs coach this past season. Smith spent some time working with Bieniemy and understands how valuable he is as a coach.
"I spent five years with Eric (Bieniemy) with EB here in Kansas City, and listen, he loves what he does, this guy has such a passion for coaching, teaching, and developing his guys, and the energy he brings every single day is truly unique." said Smith, "The NFL can be a grind, it's hard, it's a lot of hours, it can be a slog, it can wear you down. EB has this unique energy and confidence about him every single day. I also think you need a healthy amount of friction to reach your potential. You sometimes need coaches to say the uncomfortable things. You need them to press guys to really push them, and EB has that quality. This guy's not afraid of some confrontation, and I mean that in the best of ways. There is this sense of urgency that he has about him every single day, and I think that that truly is unique as well."
The Abbott Dream Team seeks out talented young soccer players aged 18-19 from across the United States, offering them a life-changing opportunity to travel to Madrid to showcase their skills, learn from Real Madrid's coaches, meet club legends, attend a Real Madrid match, and more.
