On Friday, a memo went out from the NFL to all 32 teams to let them know the salary cap for the upcoming season is a historic $301.2 million. This is first time the cap has exceeded $300 million and has more than tripled since 2005. Recently, teams were informed that the new cap would be somewhere between the $301.2 number and $305.7 so the final number came out on the low end.

This new number means the Pittsburgh Steelers will have something in the neighborhood of $43 million to spend in free agency. This is great considering the team has no significant in-house free agent needs to address.

Here is the NFL salary cap by year going back to 2005.
