How much of the Indianapolis Colts' 2026 salary cap space is devoted to the safety position?
For this season, the league-wide salary cap was set at $301.2 million, and of that, $24.97 million will go towards the safety position for the Colts, according to Over the Cap.
Compared to the rest of the NFL, the Colts rank ninth in salary cap spending at this position, and that figure accounts for only 8.3% of the team's allotted cap space.
Accounting for the majority of this cap space at safety is Cam Bynum's contract. He is entering Year 2 of a four-year deal worth $60 million. Bynum's cap hit of $15.01 million is the sixth-largest on the team and is the seventh-largest among all safeties league-wide.
The other safety salary cap hits are quite modest. AJ Haulcy, Hunter Wohler, and Daniel Scott are all on rookie deals. Of this group, Haulcy's cap hit of $1.287 million is the largest this season.
Jonathan Owens and Juanyeh Thomas both signed one-year deals at near league minimum. Owens' cap hit is $1.262 million, and Thomas' is $1.332 million.
Trey Washington, Austin Brown, and Ben Nikkel each have cap hits at $1 million or below that mark.
