The Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly made their first move of NFL free agency.
“The #Steelers have re-signed versatile CB Asante Samuel Jr., sources say, as he gets a 1-year deal,” NFL Network national insider Ian Rapoport posted on X. “After signing midseason, the former #Chargers standout appeared in six games and flashed the potential that made him a budding star. Now, back in PIT.”
“The Steelers are re-signing corner Asante Samuel Jr. to a one-year, $4M deal, per source,” ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler wrote on X. “Samuel, who recovered from neck surgery in 2025, gets a full season in Pittsburgh.”
While players can’t officially be signed until Wednesday, the NFL’s legal tampering period begins on Monday.
Cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. spent the first four seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers before signing with the Steelers’ practice squad in November.
The son of former Pro Bowl cornerback Asante Samuel missed most of the 2024 campaign after undergoing spinal fusion surgery.
The 26-year-old was elevated to Pittsburgh’s active roster before Week 13 and finished the 2025 season with 10 tackles and one interception across six games (three starts).
