I went on the YouTube trail to watch some interviews with Mike to get a sense of what he's like. In one he said one of his best friends is Mike McDaniel, same we aren't quick enough to maybe have him on as our OC... would have been a long-shot I know.

He also spoke about his time at the Jets and wouldn't change it for anything as he learnt so much... remember you learn more from your failures... thinking about it if that was the case the Cardinals and Mike Bidwill should be crushing it in the league now

If only he had done ANYTHING since then to provide ANY evidence that he'a changed.

He could've dispelled the doubts via his on-field play... by displaying quick reads to exploit defenses right after the snap, by going deeper through his progressions more often, or by making more anticipatory throws to throw receivers open.

Since he KNOWS that this is his reputation, he could've slipped in ONE SCENE of film study in any of his off-season videos between the workouts, the massages, the private chef, and playing games with the receivers. He could've mentioned something he saw on film at any of his post game pressers. He could've mentioned in any of his interviews that he's learned the value of putting in the extra hours in the film room, and no longer feels the way he did when he gave the Times interview.

Or we could've heard from any of the receivers or backs about getting late night texts referencing something to look at on film so they could get on the same page and exploit it... like we heard multiple times after Brissett took over. Or we could've heard from his biggest fan, Jonathan Gannon, not just that he's a "hard worker" but that he's a film junkie.

But not one hint of ANY of those things has ever happened. And his play on the field makes it obvious that defenses have figured out how to negate his best attributes, while he's done nothing to learn and grow and figure out how to counter what defenses are doing.

Now after 7 years, two coaching staffs have built offenses to try to get the most out of him, and neither has succeeded. But I'm sure in year 8 with yet another staff, all that film work will finally pay off.
This sums it up well

Buddy sometimes first year head coaches do find innovative ways to compete fast. DeMeco Ryan has gone to the playoffs every year since he took over a team that was 11-38-1 in the prior three seasons.
Heck, I'd give a limb for Coen right now.

John Benton worked with LaFleur in San Francisco and with the Jets. He is now the offensive line-coach with the Seahawks. I think their o-line has been fine this season, and it would just be nice to steal him from them.
If they hire LaFleur, I think this guy would be an intriguing OC. As mentioned, they have been together for many years, first in San Francisco (2017-2020), and then the Jets (2020-2021). He has improved the offensive line everywhere he has gone - last time with the Seahawks this season. He obviously has a lot of knowledge of both Shanahan’s and Kubiak’s offense, which likely would be very reminiscent of LaFleur’s.

Some days ago I mentioned Adam Stenavich, Dave Ragone and Nathan Scheelhaase, and I still think they might be options. Look out for Thomas Brown as a dark horse. The Cardinals requested an interview earlier (I don’t know if they ever got it), and even though LaFleur never worked with him, Brown has worked many years for McVay.

Anyway, I started looking a bit at Benton’s work, and that was actually the reason for this post.

I'll start..
I fully understand the analogy, but Ice-cream just isn't gonna cut it. I cannot for the life of me remember ever having bad ice-cream. :)
Maybe try cereal or soup..LOL
Oh, there's bad ice cream all right. I used to think that same way 20 years ago. Bought whatever was on sale. Now that I'm an old man, my taste buds know the difference immediately. You ever see some of the ingredients in some of these brands? Half the stuff isn't even legally allowed to call itself "ice cream".

I don’t think this is necessarily a problem. He’s definitely putting it in the worst possible light. If you don’t understand the root causes of your problem, talk to a lot of people with experience with terrible owners like Dan Snyder and Jerry Richardson.

Coen and the other LaFleur had OC positions where they called plays after working for the rams so it’s not like all of these guys jumped to HC spots without ever calling plays for an NFL offense.

The Arizona Cardinals are hard at work searching for the franchise's next head coach – but one candidate the organization recently brought in for an in-person interview has some fans scratching their head in confusion, if not also a little bit of anger.

I'm predicting a 10am press conference to announce LaFleur.
I believe the holdup is they are still filling the staff and want to announce the entire staff at the same time

Lot's of salaries to negotiate and finding out who will actually come here

The staff is as important as the HC as we witnessed when we lost our Oline coach and the blocking went downhill fast

Why? Because it came out they interviewed someone weeks ago who satisfied the Rooney Rule?

Having been involved in many hiring committees over the years at my current job, I've found that the best way to screw them up is to zero in on one candidate early on in the process. Because if that candidate decides to turn you down, THEN there's no plan in place for what to do next. So I am actually encouraged to hear that the Cardinals have taken the time to interview a wide variety of candidates, even if not all of them are guys I'd be thrilled for them to hire.
