The New York Giantsare hiring Dennard Wilson as their new defensive coordinator under head coach John Harbaugh.
The 43-year-old Wilson most recently served as the Tennessee Titans' defensive coordinator, where he guided the unit to a No. 2 ranking in total defense (311.2 yards per game) and passing defense (177.3 ypg) in his debut play-calling season -- marks not seen since 2000.
A former Ravens defensive backs coach under Harbaugh, Wilson brings proven secondary expertise and schematic discipline to a Giants defense that struggled mightily last year. This reunion aims to spark a much-needed turnaround.
Here's how Giants fans and analysts reacted to the news.

Now that the storm has calmed down I’m genuinely excited for Dennard Wilson as our DC. Leonhard would’ve been a fun big name but I remember how nasty that Titans defense was his first year. They had tons of short yardage to work on.
It’s going to be FUN.

Over the last two seasons here are the list of players who logged 5 or more COMBINED sacks with the Titans over the last two seasons:
Jeffrey Simmons 16 sacks
Jihad Ward 5 sacks
That's it. That's what Dennard Wilson had to work with. The context matters here!

Did A LOT with little to work with. Like the Wilson hire. #NYGIANTSpic.twitter.com/9jIcY74dDY

Dennard Wilson's D finished 21st, 15th against the run with not a lot of talent.
Career year for Jeffrey Simmons.
Big development for second-year LB Cedric Gray (who was all over the field when I watched Titans).
Giants have a lot more talent.#NYGiants

Dennard Wilson is a good football coach. This is a good hire for the Giants.
I am high on the next season. https://t.co/ko4xABRVdI

The New York Football Giants signed the guy they wanted two years ago. Welcome to NY Dennard Wilson.
This isn’t just “another Titans DC”
Guy has a great resume and has worked under some of the best Defensive minds in the game.
We are excited about this hire.#NYGiantspic.twitter.com/G4oJywu4N9

After doing some research this is a great hire.
Dennard Wilson’s defenses have had success everywhere he’s been.
Wilson has been hidden from the public eye due to being in Tennessee on a losing team, but his units have been great with the Titans, Ravens, and Eagles. https://t.co/AXMNkY7dnXpic.twitter.com/GLh2qk2lOg

Dennard Wilson brings an attacking philosophy. Preaching violence at the point of attack, smart blitzing, gap integrity and being multiple in fronts and coverages. Runs 3-4 base with nickel/dime sets) thrives on neg plays, but run defense has been a mixed bag in his track record. pic.twitter.com/fsa8FTpAIo

Dennard Wilson is a secondary specialist. Considering how bad the Giants' secondary was last season, Wilson could make a massive impact from day one. https://t.co/UP0wog4255

Got the sense talking to some in the league that Dennard Wilson's defense in Tennessee and some struggles this past season were personnel related and not a coordinator or coaching issue.

Dennard Wilson isn’t another Shane Bowen and they have nothing in common schematically other than the team hat they wore.
Even just looking at Titans fans largely positive view of Wilson vs their laughter of Bowen should end that comp beyond just joking.
