The Wisconsin Badgers are in a crucial period under head coach Luke Fickell. After three full seasons, which have each seen a gradual downturn, the 2026 campaign may very well represent his last chance to right the ship. With so much on the line, Fickell and his staff went all in for highly sought-after quarterback Colton Joseph. Joseph was rated as the nation’s 185th-best quarterback in last year’s portal according to 247Sports. Joseph is one of 33 commits who joined the team via the NCAA Transfer Portal during the offseason. In Joseph’s two seasons with Old Dominion, the Newport Beach, California, native totaled 4,251 yards, 32 touchdowns and 15 interceptions on a 59.7% completion rate.
Joseph’s transfer to the Badgers was rated by On3’s Ari Wasserman as the 6th-most impactful Big Ten transfer heading into 2026.Despite a slow start against the Indiana Hoosiers last season in a game where Joseph threw for just 96 yards and three interceptions, he quickly turned things around, reeling off eight straight games of at least 200 yards, including a season-high of 315 in a dominant 47-7 win over Coastal Carolina.Last season, the Monarchs finished the year with a 10-3 record under head coach Ricky Rahne. Joseph played in the first 12 of those.
