Nebraska softball pitching coach Lori Sippel announced her retirement on Tuesday. Sippel served on the coaching staff for 37 seasons, including 23 as the associate head coach.

She also played at Nebraska from 1985 to 1988 before taking her role on the coaching staff. During her coaching tenure, the program recorded 1,449 wins, 18 conference titles, 26 NCAA tournament appearances, and six trips to the Women’s College World Series.

She has coached every All-American pitcher in program history. Sippel won individual awards as well, including the 2002 National Assistant Coach of the Year.

Sippel was an accomplished international player and coach. She represented Team Canada as a pitcher in the 1996 Olympics and coached Team Canada in 2008.

She is the first Husker to have her jersey retired. Sippel is also a member of the International Softball Federation Hall of Fame, the Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame and the Nebraska Softball Hall of Fame.

The departure will certainly leave a void in the program, as the Huskers look to build off one of the best seasons in program history. Her replacement will certainly have big shoes to fill.

Forever a Husker.
