The best hope for Beck to start is to prove he is the best QB on the roster. The longer Brissett holds out, it provides more reps for Beck to show he is, but Beck still has to earn 1st team reps from Minshew.
starting to wonder what lafleur's thoughts are

Probably not, but I also specified clearly (I thought) that Beck’s potential success is not conditional on traits.
Okay but what does he have in greater measure than Brissett?

My theory of the case is that Brissett can do all of the stuff that you want Shanahan/McVay QBs to do, he has better tools than the Jimmys Garappolo and Nicks Mullens. He’s capable of following the paths of an established offense.

So what is Brissett missing that could win you over?

Certainly that is fair. You are obviously entitled to your opinion.

Wins.

Yeah but you don’t want him to play at all. In fact, the only path to competitive play you see is not playing Brissett at all.

So you’ve seen something from Brissett that disqualifies him and/or something from Beck that makes him obviously the superior option.

Which and what?

7 - Only rumors say Sweat isn't happy or wants to be traded. His current behavior hasn't changed, he never reports to voluntary OPs.

9 - What Oaken has posted. Again we have some details but not all and what role Adams played in any of this. How about maybe his sister got involved with bad characters while Adams was in the US playing in the NFL. Maybe he is just finding out about most or all of what his sister got herself into. My thought is he probably is involved enough to warrant the charges but we don't convict on probably.

Always look forward to your posts.

Will be interesting to see what Brissett can do under ML and a healthy squad with a run game. I'm sure the TE's and WR's want him to start. He got them all involved better than Kyler ever did even if it was garbage time. Brissett just lacks clutch.

For entertainment purposes and hope, I want to see Beck start!

I have already once directed you back to the original post, but I guess you should do it again.

I certainly hope there is nothing to worry about. As I mentioned, he is arguably their most important defender.

Oh no, no excuses. :) I am ready to eat a lot of crow. I think you have to if you post columns like this. No chance that 15 points are going to become true.

My response was very pedantic and I apologize.

I feel like I have a history of taking some... strong positions... and ragging on another poster for sticking their neck out is low class on my part.

My main disagreement would be with the idea of starting Beck early. Even if I thought he had potential (which I obviously don't), throwing a rookie QB to the wolves with our shaky O-line and our brutal early schedule will only ensure that the dude will abysmally fail.

I don't think you can start Beck right away unless he really proves he can manage the offense and provide a boost over Brissett.
He’s 5 years older than Kyler was in his first start and has, what 50-60 games under his belt with 45 starts in college? If anything he might be the most prepared in NFL history to start game 1.

I’m not sure what Beck does or might do that is better than what Brissett has already shown he can do.

No one has been able to tell me. I’m asking in good faith.
He's a different person and a few years younger, for some people that is enough to call him better.

I think it is unreasonable to expect a 3rd round QB to be your savior. It does rarely happen, but it is an extreme outlier.

Don’t worry for a second about that, Phrazbit. :)

Sure, it's only speculation, but it is a bit strange that he suddenly has to start training camp on PUP.

Sure, it's only speculation, but it is a bit strange that he suddenly has to start training camp on PUP.

"Seeing him yesterday, he's fired up to be here," LaFleur said. "He was in great spirits. He looks really good. I said, I mean, you just naturally dap these guys up. I'm like, 'Pretty rock solid right now.' So, when we started talking about a diet, and he's like, 'It's hard for me to eat.' I said, 'Man, I wish it was hard for me to eat.'

"So no, he's in a good spot right now. And again, I expect him at some point."

LaFleur said Sweat and Johnson wouldn't have been on the PUP list if Arizona had reported to training camp a week later, as most teams will. Sweat won't be back until next week at the earliest, LaFleur said, with a potential training camp debut Tuesday.

During minicamp in June, LaFleur said Sweat's non-participation on the field was not injury-related, adding that he didn't want to play Sweat if he hadn't been practicing leading up to minicamp. He also said that Sweat worked out on his own in the offseason.

As for Johnson, who finished the season on injured reserve after missing the last four games because of a knee injury, LaFleur said his addition to the PUP list was "honestly nothing," calling it "maintenance stuff."

"He'll be back before you know it," LaFleur said. "So, no problems with Paris."
