The final Directors’ Cup standings were released with the conclusion of the college baseball season (thanks again, by the way, Oklahoma!), and NC State landed at No. 22, marking its sixth consecutive finish in the top 25.
To get the final numbers, the Directors’ Cup counts men’s and women’s hoops, baseball, women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball, and then each school’s next 14 highest-scoring sports, regardless of gender. As Dave Doeren would say, State left a little meat on the bone out there, what with both women’s hoops and baseball having disappointing seasons.
Prior to this current run of six straight top-25 finishes, NC State had only ever finished in the top 25 once—don’t forget that these are the good old days, people! NC State was sixth among ACC schools this season, and also finished ahead of every single Big 12 school.
As always, that’s some fine work for a department that definitely does not have a top-25 budget. Having a lot of talented coaches helps a lot.
