Tennessee basketball's first SEC Tournament game is two days away, but Nate Ament hasn't practiced with the Vols.

The freshman forward is still doing conditioning work with director of sports medicine Chad Newman.

He suffered a high right ankle sprain in Tennessee's loss at Missouri on Feb. 24.

The Vols (21-9) earned the No. 5 seed for the SEC Tournament in Nashville. They'll play the winner of No. 12 Auburn (16-15) and No. 13 Mississippi State (13-18) at Bridgestone Arena on March 12 (3 p.m. ET, SEC Network).

"He's OK," coach Rick Barnes said before practice on March 10. "He did some things with Chad the last couple days, and I think he'll see a little bit more today, but we'll see. He has been doing more with Chad, running. He'll probably push a little bite more today and see how he responds to it."

Barnes expressed confidence in Ament's return for the postseason following the Vols' 86-82 loss to Vanderbilt on March 7. Tennessee will practice on March 11 in Nashville.

Troy Henderson injury update

Freshman guard Troy Henderson's status is also unknown. He played briefly in the Vanderbilt game and knocked down a 3-pointer late in the first half. He left the game soon after injuring his troublesome left shoulder, which has been bothering him since late January.

"I don't think Troy will practice today because of that stinger," Barnes said. "We know that he's going to have to do offseason surgery. But Troy said, 'I want to stay and help as much as I can until the season's over.'

"These are the things you go through when you're in a season as long as our season is. We'll just have to hope other guys will step up and do the job for us."
