Myles Garrett trade sadly had a major impact on the New York Jets originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Jets are hopeful that if this season doesn't work out, they're going to find their franchise quarterback in the 2027 NFL Draft.
There's a reason the Jets decided to move on from Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams: having their own first-round pick, plus those two others in the 2027 NFL Draft, will at least give them the ammo to move up if needed to select a franchise quarterback.
The Jets now have three first-rounders in the 2027 first round, but the trade with the Cleveland Browns moving Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams could definitely have an impact on New York.
According to the latest from Rich Cimini of ESPN, the Browns are now one of two teams, including the Jets, that have more than one first-round pick in the 2027 first round.
“Today’s two blockbuster trades will send ripples through the NFL, and the Jets will be one of the teams affected. No. 1, Myles Garrett to the Rams, in return, the Browns get a package that includes a 2027 first-round pick. That means they join the Jets as the only two teams with multiple first-round picks in the talent-rich 2027 draft. The Jets have three first-rounders, the Browns have two. Now the Browns are potential competition for a coveted quarterback,” Cimini wrote.
While this might not be the biggest problem, it's also very fair to mention that the Browns themselves are looking for a quarterback.
If Cleveland ends up finding their guy in the first round, or has the first pick, the Jets probably aren't going to get their favorite guy. I'm unsure if New York is going to worry about that throughout the season, but it's probably something it should keep in the back of its mind.
