Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn was asked an interesting question on Wednesday.
Wednesday was the beginning of the first week of the three-day Washington Commanders voluntary OTA sessions. As Quinn was fielding questions from the local media, he was asked, "Does Jayden (Daniels), because of what happened last year, have something to prove all over again?"
I found it interesting because it's the NFL, and in some sense, everyone has something to prove every season, or someone will be taking your spot. On the other hand, Daniels has only been in the league for two years, and just because 2025 saw him miss 10 games does not indicate that he is in any danger of losing his job or his role as a leader.
How did Dan Quinn handle the question? "That's a question for him. But I would say what he, his teammates, and coaches know is that this is a relentless competitor. One of the traits I admire most about him is his ability to deliver in clutch moments."
Quinn wasn't just talking talent, or elusiveness to avoid contact, or ability to throw a ball deep, or even read a defense. Quinn was referring to what he has seen in two off seasons already from Daniels. So Quinn continued, "And that's something that goes with the work and the preparation to go do that. But I think just his competitive nature just answers that all of the time, that he's always wanting to prove and get to that space."
With new offensive coordinator David Blough beginning his installation of a new offense for Daniels and the Commanders' offense, Quinn was succinct and confident, stating he "sees the same intent, communication, and mental quickness” that he and other coaches on the staff saw in Daniels in both 2024 and 2025.
The 2024 Commanders were 12-5 with two additional road playoff wins. The 2025 team was 5-12. So, doesn't everyone still in the organization thus have something to prove this 2026 season?
