Big if, but if true, bad news for the league overall. Can't have the voice of the players wanting to make the strong, stronger. Not a good policy for the health of the league IMO.Just saw on ESPN ticker that MLBPA offer would have been bad for small market teams per Manfred.
Yeah, I found that he was referring to free agency on rookie contracts. Owners have used the method of delaying prospects entry into majors in order to give them an extra year of control thus delaying a prospect's free agency a year. He cited small market teams do it to avoid losing stars but the screw over players because they can't pay them put big market teams can, that's bull****, the gripe should be with big market clubs. MLB needs to increase luxury tax penalties then to penalize big market teams since there is no salary cap being discussed. But players are asking for the luxury tax threshold to be increased so that they can continue to get record breaking contracts from big market teams. Salary caps are the only way to fix MLB's competitive imbalance. It works for both NFL & NBA and their contracts are larger than baseball.Big if, but if true, bad news for the league overall. Yep. They just need to get it over with and profit share like the NFL. Yankee and Red Sox fans will remain fans even if they struggle like the next team.. I wouldn't be surprised if this was an mlbpa issue all along. I would think ownership across the league would see what profit sharing and salary caps have done in the sporting world around them and want the same for the league and their product.Yeah, I found that he was referring to free agency on rookie contracts.
