Jun. 9—MITCHELL — Coming off a successful showing at the 2026 South Dakota High School Clay Target League state tournament, the Mitchell High School trapshooting team handed out its season-end awards on Monday night.
Highlights from the state tournament included freshman Hadleigh Wilson winning two state titles: trap varsity female and skeet junior varsity female. Paced by Wilson, the Mitchell took third place as a team in the varsity trap standings, with Chance Henkel, Mason Fosness, Brooke Ver Hey and Devin Henkel contributing to the overall team score. Trinity Wilson, a sophomore, claimed the skeet varsity female title, while sixth-grader Haley Hauck was third in the trap novice female division.
This year, Mitchell sent 36 students to compete at the state tournament between the trap and skeet events. Mitchell is a member of Class 2A, which includes more than 450 total competitors representing 16 schools. Classification within the South Dakota High School Clay Target League is determined by participation, not enrollment. Class 2A schools have at least 40 students in their clay target programs.
