Andrew Surprenant carded a second straight bogey-free round and captured his first New Hampshire Stroke Play Championship on Thursday at Portsmouth Country Club in Greenland.
The 20-year-old Beaver Meadow Golf Course member shot a 5-under-par 67 and finished the 54-hole tournament with a 13-under 201 (71-63-67) to win his first NH Golf title outside of the Junior Tour.
Surprenant, a Boscawen resident, did not record a bogey over his final 48 holes and hit 43 consecutive greens in regulation.
"I just had the mindset of coming out and doing what I've been doing," Surprenant told NH Golf. "I hit a lot of fairways and center of the greens. The greens were much quicker than they have been the last two days but I just continued to two-putt and figured the putt will fall."
The first two days of the tournament were played at Breakfast Hill Golf Club in Greenland and Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth.
Surprenant got into a rhythm on the back nine on Thursday. The Southern New Hampshire University junior birdied four of the first seven holes on the back nine and finished with five birdies overall.
Surprenant entered the final round with a one-stroke lead on runner-up Joe Leavitt.
Leavitt, the 2014 Stroke Play champion, was tied with Surprenant for the lead after his birdie on the par-3, 164-yard third hole. Leavitt, a 32-year-old Kingston resident, finished four strokes behind Surprenant with a 9-under 205 (70-65-70).
"It feels really good to finally get one (a title) in a non-junior event so I'm really happy," Surprenant told NH Golf.
Harry Garland, an 18-year-old Pelham resident, shot a 9-under, bogey-free 63 on Thursday to finish in third place — five spots higher than where he started the day. The Sky Meadow Country Club member carded an 8-under 206 (74-69-63).
Laconia CC member Noah Farland (6-under 208) and Nashua CC member Bryce Zimmerman (4-under 210) rounded out the top five finishers.
