Mississippi State baseball lands Oregon's starting catcher Burke-Lee Mabeus

STARKVILLE — Mississippi State baseball landed potentially its new starting catcher in the transfer portal.

Oregon's Burke-Lee Mabeus committed to the Bulldogs on June 24 with an announcement on Instagram.

The draft-eligible sophomore also said he's withdrawing from the 2026 MLB Draft, which begins July 11. He was not ranked as a top 200 prospect by MLB.com.

Mabeus made 46 starts in 2026, batting .286 with eight home runs, 31 RBIs and 36 runs. Defensively, he posted a .993 fielding percentage and threw out 13 of 29 attempted base stealers.


The Henderson, Nevada native made the 2025 Big Ten All-Freshman Team with a .257 batting average, two home runs, 23 RBIs and 27 runs.
