Mississippi State baseball lands Army's Josiah Overbeek, a freshman All-American

STARKVILLE — Mississippi State baseball has landed a freshman All-American in the transfer portal.

Army two-way player Josiah Overbeek committed to the Bulldogs on June 16. He was also named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year.

The Weatherford, Texas, native batted .314 this season with 17 home runs, 44 RBIs, 52 runs and 56 walks. He also pitched 15 times as a reliever, posting a 5.57 ERA and 5-0 record.

Army listed Overbeek as a first baseman on its roster, but he also made starts at designated hitter, left field and right field.


Overbeek's commitment gives Mississippi State three players for 2027 who were on the NCBWA Freshman All-American first team with Jacob Parker and Georgia Southern transfer designated hitter Brady Christman. Overbeek made the team as a utility player.

The transfer portal opened June 1 and closes June 30.
