Trade predictions are aplenty for the Minnesota Vikings as we turn toward preseason in the National Football League. The Vikings' status as a viable playoff contender incentivises them to make the most of their current standing and get even better.
We have seen some of the wilder trade proposals. Justin Jefferson has commanded buzz to reel in two first round picks in exchange for a trade. But we feel pretty confident the Vikings would say no even to that kind of trade. Jefferson means too much to the organization.
A new trade proposal has emerged. In no surprise, NFL analysts are looking at the possibility that the Vikings trade one of their two well-known quarterbacks in Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy. One analyst says it's McCarthy that could head to another team.
SB Nation's Jarrett Bailey predicts that the Vikings could trade former Michigan Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy to the Ravens to join up with his old team's former defensive coordinator Jesse Minter. Here's what Bailey wrote on the topic.
"The writing is on the wall for J.J. McCarthy. The Vikings won 14 games with Sam Darnold, didn’t bring him back, and then watched him win a Super Bowl while they limped to a 9-8 record. McCarthy completed less than 60 percent of his passes with 11 touchdowns to 12 interceptions. He gets dealt to Baltimore and Jesse Minter, who won a National Championship with McCarthy at Michigan as the Wolverines’ defensive coordinator."

It's unclear how close McCarthy and Minter are after their time with the Wolverines, but we do know that they were a good combination in Ann Arbor. Minter's defense suffocated any offense from opposition, while McCarthy consistently dominated third downs with clutch conversions all season long in his final college campaign.
McCarthy has not put up crazy numbers in college or the pros, but he certainly had the penchant for clutch play in Michigan. If one good trait translated to the NFL, it's that. McCarthy proved to be significantly better in the fourth quarter for the Vikings than the first three. Perhaps Minter's system would be a better fit for McCarthy in his current level, though he is working to improve this offseason.
It's no guarantee that the Ravens would make such trade for McCarthy as Bailey suggests. Included in the rest of his suggestions is a Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl win over the Cincinnati Bengals. If quarterback Dak Prescott's track record or the Cowboys' last 30 years of football are of is any indication, that's probably not going to happen.
Even so, it's possible that the Vikings trade McCarthy to another team. We'll update any trade news as it comes.
