Binghamton University formally introduced its women’s flag football head coach, Jeff Melesky, at a press conference on Thursday, Aug. 6.
Melesky had been tapped in late July to lead Binghamton’s program, which was introduced in February as the school’s newest NCAA Division I sports offering.
"I'm very passionate about what we're doing here," Melesky said.
Melesky, a Virginia native, pointed to Binghamton's investment in local sports, particularly girls high school sports, as one of his motivations for coming to New York and joining the school's athletic program.
"I know that there was stuff going on in New York, in terms of building athletes at the high school level; and I know there are real athletes here, and that's what intrigues me."
Melesky became Webber International University's inaugural women’s flag football coach in June 2020. In his first year, he guided the team from inception to a 10-4 record and an appearance in the NAIA championship.
The Warriors also secured their first RCX Women's College Flag Finals Championship in May. The team averaged more than 10 wins per season over the six years Melesky served as head coach.

New to the Binghamton area, Melensky said to have plans on scouting players both on and off the field, including speaking with local high school coaches, emphasizing the importance of starting the recruitment process as soon as possible.
The Bearcats will continue to build the team through the coming months and begin intercollegiate competition as a member of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) in the spring of 2028.
