Current saves leaders and their # of blown saves:

1) Cade Smith - 23 SV (2 blown)
2) Mason Miller - 19 SV (0 blown)
3) Bryan Baker - 18 SV (3 blown)
3) Jhoan Duran - 18 SV (1 blown)
3) Paul Sewald - 18 SV (1 blown)

Idk how he’s still doing it but he’s doing it…

#Dbacks RHP Paul Sewald becomes the 12th different closer in club history to notch 20+ saves in a single season.

And he’s the first to do it since Brad Boxberger in 2018.

His 49 saves are 6th most in franchise history.

Paul Sewald has done his job as a closer this season.

He is 23/24 in save opportunities.

Non-save situations are an entirely different story. It's simple... he should never be used in one again. Full stop.

Paul Sewald has 42 strikeouts and 9 walks in 36.1 innings this year — both excellent. The long ball has been the issue.

He has now allowed 9 home runs, tied for the third-most among MLB relievers and just one off his career high.

Torey Lovullo said Paul Sewald is out of closer's role, at least for now and will pitch in lower leverage situations
Declined to name Brandyn Garcia the closer. He will play matchups for now, depending on the situation
When asked if Ginkel was an option, he mentioned Loaisiga

This is interesting:

Paul Sewald's last blown save in 2024 before losing the closer's job: July 28.
Paul Sewald's last blown save in 2026 before losing the closer's job: July 28.

Pitching himself off the roster? Without Torey's coddling, that's exactly what would happen on any other team based on his last six outings. Sewald is out of gas - he's not even running on fumes.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo says it was a ‘brutal decision’ to DFA popular veteran reliever Paul Sewald, ‘He’s meant so much to this organization.’

I genuinely feel badly for the guy - seems like he's a terrific person. He's also one of the main reasons we are where we are at this point. That said, I don't disagree with the decision - his shelf life unfortunately ran out again.
