Man I hope this turns out to be a great one... Really no Mayweather fights ever turn out to be all that exciting. He's just too damn talented and one of the most gifted defensive fighters in the history of the sport. Nobody has ever been able to lay on glove on his chin...

But, between the layoff, his on-going issues out of the ring and Marquez being a tremendous, incredibly tough fighter himself who arguably beat Manny twice and never got even one decision... I'm thinking the stage could be set for a monumental upset... would love to see it!

Marquez did not arguably beat Manny twice. One was kinda close that you could see 1 out of 5 people giving to Marquez. The other was pretty clear cut imo. Not that it wasnt close it just shouldnt really be debatable.

Both were great fights. Both were very close fights. And both could've easily gone to Marquez...;)

Ill take Mayweather. Not because he'll be the better fighter, but because it'll set up the showdown b/w pac-may

They took that site down right at the end of the eighth.
Mayweather is dominating. The only way he loses is by knockout and I don't see that happening.

Mayweather wins by unanimous decision!

Michael Buffer announces the unanimous decision: 120-107, 119-108, and, 118-109, all for Mayweather, meaning he lost only three rounds total between the three judges.

How anyone can say that fight was boring is beyond me. It's an honour to watch somebody as good as Mayweather. He made Marquez look ordinary.

I dont mind defense in football or nice defensive plays in baseball.

Im just not as thrilled by seeing mayweather dodge all those shots and do just enough offensive damage to win the fight.

Call me a brute. I like to see them land punches.

You mean you like to see sluggers who just swing and hope? Mayweather lands a higher % of his punches than most and usually has a couple of nice ones per round.

If im paying (which i most certainly am NOT!) $60 for a fight, i expect to see more than a "few nice ones" per round. Pacquiao, Cotto, Marquez fights are always entertaining even though they don't just swing and hope.

Floyd = spurs of boxing. Great, but boring.

Floyd purposely blew off trying to make weight. He already was naturally bigger and stronger and faster than Marquez... He's a punk. I would love to see him fight Shane Mosely. Won't happen unless Cotto beats Pacquaio...But if Floyd had real guts, he'd give Mosely a chance. Mosely is probably the only guy out there (maybe Cotto) who is naturally big enough and quick enough to get to Floyd...

The only thing that would make that so is Mosely's age. He's 37. Otherwise, Mosely is by far the best chance to give Floyd a meaningful challenge.
Cotto is big and tough, and still young enough to perhaps present a challenge to Floyd. Pacquaio is just too small, though I don't think Floyd would dominate Manny as he did with Marquez.

Mosely destroyed Margarito, who had previously destroyed Cotto... Mosely also beat De LaHoya twice.

Doesn't matter as Floyd won't fight Mosely. He wants Pacquaio as that fight is where the money is at...

Floyd is all about mega 'events' and paydays at this point. He wants the most money with the least amount of risk. As much as I love the PacMan he's too small and fights way too recklessly to have a chance against a defensive wizard like Mayweather. Manny jumps in a lot and even though his KO of Hatton was spectacular, he actually threw that final KO punch with his eyes closed. That kind of stuff won't work against Floyd.

Pac went life and death with Marquez in two fights where I honestly felt that Juan Manuel won both. We all saw how one sided the beatdiown Marquez caught was against the clearly, bigger, faster man. Now I will say that Manny and JMM fought on even terms where as Mayweather had zero intention of ever making 144. I know that Mayweather was coming off an almost 2 year layoff and wanted what amounted to a tuneup fight that could still be sold (to the tune of 1mil PPV buys) and put a few mil in his pocket in the process. Considering his financial struggles I guess I'm not mad at that. Manny's speed and power have carried over at the higher weights MUCH better than what we saw out of Marquez last weekend, but still. Floyd is a true WW and he will not drain himself like Oscar did. It would be more competitive than the Marquez fight but ultimately I think Manny might end up getting the Hatton treatment with the way he jumps in.

As far as the biggest challenge out there Floyd... it's Shane. Cotto had something taken out of him in the fight with Plasterito and though he fought valiantly through a nasty, nasty cut against Clottey he looks like he is on the downside. I think he is big enough and works the body well enough to handle Pacquiao. Cotto's boxing skills have come a long way in the last couple years. PacMan could possibly win based on pure speed and I think his in and out, herky-jerky style will give Cotto problems but I'm slightly skeptical that Manny will pull this one out. If he does win that fight Pacquiao definitely deserves the p4p crown. If Cotto wins, I'm sorry but Floyd is just too fast and Miguel gets hit WAY too much. If Cotto were to fight Floyd he will get lit up like a X-mas tree.

Sooo, that brings us back to Mosely. Shane has an iron chin. He is a throwback fighter and he is as tough and strong as they come in the WW division. I still think Floyd is the favorite in that fight and think he will outbox Shane especially given that Cotto was able to do so but I can see Sugar willing to just walk through punches and try to get Floyd along the ropes and use his own speed which is very good to rip off combos. Floyd doesn't like more than a couple punches coming at him at a time. The thing is Shane is not a great jabber which IMO is the only way Floyd is going to get beat. Shane's only hope is to be able to channel that pissed-off-ness that he had when he fought Margarito knowing he had tried to load his gloves against him. However, Floyd certainly will not be there to be hit like Antonio was.

Bottom line is Floyd HAS to fight the winner of Pac-Cotto or Shane next. I think Shane is the toughest test but I still see Mayweather victorious against any of those guys. He doesn't take chances. He is fast as all hell and his defense is 'impregnable' as Iron Mike would say. He's still in his prime and looked to have zero rust after the layoff. Mayweather says he can get even better which is just SCARY.

Damn I miss your posts!! Great summation as always D!

I can't argue any of your points. You said exactly how I feel. I think Manny will take Cotto on points. The only reason Cotto was stopped against Antonio was due to the plastic in his gloves...Cotto is a pit bull and he unless the fight gets stopped due to cuts, it'll go the distance and Manny will be victorious.
Which will set up one of the biggest PPV events ever. Floyd vs Manny...
I just don't see any possible way for Manny to win that fight. Yes, Manny is quick - but Floyd is just as fast, if not faster! And of course, Floyd is naturally bigger, stronger and has the best defense the game has ever seen...
We agree on the Shane topic. He's the only one in the game that represents a viable threat to Floyd. Shane is still very quick. He's tough as nails. He might even be naturally larger than Floyd, and I know he punches better than anyone Floyd has ever faced. But, as you said, Shane doesn't have a great jab and without it, it's hard to believe he can really set up Floyd for serious damage... Still would love to see that fight - i just don't believe Floyd will make it happen...

D - what about B-Hop and Roy getting together?? Incredible. Of course, we all wish they made this happen 10 years ago, but it still will be a very, very intersting fight. I'm leaning toward Hopkins in this one. He is still an amazing fighter, even at his advanced age. Incredible. Roy has lost a ton. I mean a ton. And he's got no chin... Should be a fun one to watch, but I wouldn't be surprised if Hopkins won in a landslide...

It's crazy isn't it? Actually if I'm not mistaken we were talking about this fight being a possibility about 4-5 years ago and saying back then how long past due it was. Now both guys are over 40 and it FINALLY looks like it's going to happen. Talk about a long time comin...

I just don't see how Roy can win. I love him but he has no legs anymore. He can't fight in the center of the ring for any kind of sustained stretches. Against a completely shot Lacy he fought almost exclusively on the ropes. He fought similarly against Calzaghe. That just won't work against Bernard. Unless B-Hop gets really old over night The Executioner has all the advantages from what I can tell. He has aged like a fine chianti where as Roy has been on the serious decline ever since getting KTFO by Tarver and Johnson. I just wish Roy would call it a career already. My favorite fighter and he's going down the Willie Mays on the Mets or Franco Harris on the Seahawks or Emmitt on the Cardinals road of hanging on way too long. I just don't want to see him get seriously or permanately hurt. With the way his legs have looked in his last few fights it could happen.

Anyway since both guys' skills have dimished (RJJ much more so) it actually may end up providing some decent action because they will have to stand and trade at some point and won't be able to elude punches as they once were able to. If Bernard opens up like the way he teed off on Pavlik at will it should be a good scrap.

You know it's gonna be a GREAT promotion. So much smack is going to be talked and if ever there was a fight tailor made for a 24/7 series this is it. Roy won't have to resort to dressing up in pirate costumes (how sad was that?) to promte this one. These guys will talk this thing up like no other and then you have the historical aspect coming in to play. This one will be for history. Might be the last big payday and last time in the spotlight for both as well. I'm looking forward to it!

Ditto! I really hope Roy doesn't get hurt. I know Hopkins has been after him ever since he lost the first fight some 15-16 years ago. And has felt Roy was running from him the entire time. No love lost here at all! And with Roy's legs, chin and skills far more diminished than B-Hop, it could get ugly... Just hope we don't see another Tarver/Johnson type knockout of Roy...
And yes, the 24/7 series should be one of the best, if not the best ever!!!
