For the second time this season, a Suns player was named NBA Western Conference Player of the Week today as forward Shawn Marion took the honor for December 26, 2005 - Jan. 1, 2006.
Marion led the Suns to a perfect 4-0 record last week as the team captured victories in the first four games of a five-game in eight days road trip. “The Matrix” tallied three double-doubles and averaged a team-high 25.3 points, 12.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.5 blocks on 66.7 percent shooting (44-66 FG) in wins at Minnesota, Washington, Charlotte and Chicago last week. Those four-game totals do not include his career-high 39-point, 14-rebound effort in last night’s triple-overtime loss at New York. He played a franchise regular season record 60 minutes in the defeat.
In a 103-89 win over the Timberwolves on Dec. 26, he had 21 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, three steals and four blocks followed by 28 points and five rebounds in a 104-99 triumph at Washington on Dec. 28. Against the Bobcats on Dec. 30, Marion recorded 24 points, 13 rebounds and three assists in a 110-100 victory. He finished the week by posting 28 points and 16 rebounds in a 107-98 overtime win against the Bulls on Dec. 31.
This is the first NBA Player of the Week award this season for Marion, who has now won the weekly honor six times during his seven-year NBA career. The 6-7, 228-pound forward also won the award on December 20, 2004, November 29, 2004, April 13, 2003, March 31, 2002 and Feb. 26, 2001.
Marion is one of only five NBA players to average at least 20 points (team-high 20.8 points, 21st in NBA) and 10 rebounds (career-high 11.9 rebounds, 4th) in 2005-06, joining Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Elton Brand and Jermaine O’Neal. The two-time All-Star (2003, 2005) has a higher rebounding average than all of those players. Marion also ranks second in double-doubles (22), eighth in steals (1.77), 13th in blocks (career-high 2.03), fifth in minutes (40.9) and tied for 14th in field goal percentage (career-high .516).
Earlier this season, Suns guard Steve Nash was named the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week for Nov. 21-27, 2005.
The Suns, who have won 15 of their last 21 games after a 4-5 start, host the Philadelphia 76ers at 7 p.m. tomorrow night at America West Arena. The game will be televised locally on FSN Arizona.

Do you guys think Marion has a chance to be an all-star again? Who are his legit threats? Elton Brand? Camby (well, he is injured)?? Melo?
