This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones.
In his interview with Easton Jr., Jones discussed his role at Tight End University 2026, presented by Reese's, founded by teammate George Kittle, Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, and retired legend Greg Olsen. He shared his mindset ahead of next season, focusing on health and fitness.
Tight End University was created to bring the Tight End community together for an immersive three-day program. Jones served as a thrower along with fellow 49ers quarterbacks as he continues to prepare for potentially more playing time in 2026.
"Yeah, just working on my body and my health, as I'm getting older, I'm still young. Still, I'm 27, gonna be 28 in September, so I know what this next part of my journey looks like, focusing on my nutrition and also keeping a good balance," said Jones, "So you don't want to be too on top of one thing. Not on top of another, so that, and then obviously my speed, I feel like I've been working on that in terms of getting faster.
Jones, in relief of an injured Brock Purdy last season, appeared in 11 games, making 8 starts, finishing with a record of 5-3. Barring more trade rumors by Week 16, he could be facing the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on December 27. The former New England Patriots quarterback lost his lone career start against Kansas City in the 2023 season.
"I have this off-season already, and there are always things. How I play out there, it's a mindset for me, and staying honed in on my brain, which is an interesting concept, but you can train your brain," said Jones, "People don't value that enough about mental health, and what you can do to be better there. I've done it all, I need to be consistent and continue working on it."
Tight End University, presented by Reese's, is celebrating its sixth year of bringing Tight Ends from across the league together to elevate the position and give back to the community. For the first time, TEU took over Vanderbilt Stadium, allowing fans to get a behind-the-scenes look at how to train like a tight end.
