This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones.
In his interview with Easton Jr., Jones discussed his role at Tight End University 2026, presented by Reese's, founded by teammate George Kittle, Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, and retired legend Greg Olsen. He addressed his relationship with 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, and a retired quarterback sees a comparison to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.
Tight End University was created to bring the Tight End community together for an immersive three-day program. Jones served as a thrower during this year's event and credited his history with head coach Kyle Shanahan for his development last season.
"Kyle and I have a great relationship, dating way back to college, coming out, and I really wanted to be there in San Francisco early. They didn't end up drafting me, which is fine, and we both went our separate ways. Still, life is funny," said Jones, "Reconnect, and I feel like me, and Kyle are just like good friends. Still, he coaches me really hard, and everybody on the team, and that's what you want. It's allowed me to show my personality and be the guy I want to be and the teammate I want to be. I'm excited for this upcoming season."
During a recent interview, former Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith compared Shanahan's consistency and success to Reid. Both coaches have faced off twice in the Super Bowl, with Reid's Chiefs leaving victorious each time. Shanahan has inherited the label of coming up short in the big game, similar to Reid's 14-year tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Tight End University, presented by Reese's, is celebrating its sixth year of bringing Tight Ends from across the league together to elevate the position and give back to the community. For the first time, TEU took over Vanderbilt Stadium, allowing fans to get a behind-the-scenes look at how to train like a tight end.
