San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Mac Jones is making the most of his NFL offseason, and his choice of venue—a recent NASCAR Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway—has the internet buzzing.
A viral clip from Bleacher Report shared on social media shows the former Pro Bowler completely leaning into the racing culture, going absolutely nuts alongside a pit crew. Dressed in a custom fire suit, Jones can be seen enthusiastically participating in a tire change challenge, forcefully hammering on lug nuts, slamming tires, and high-fiving mechanics with the kind of high-octane energy usually reserved for a game-winning touchdown drive.
Seeing Jones show off this level of unbridled, goofy passion is a fun reminder of the personality he brings to the 49ers' locker room. It's something tight end George Kittle hinted at earlier this offseason when he referred to Jones as the 49ers locker room "glue guy."
Since arriving in San Francisco, Jones has accepted his position as the ultimate insurance policy behind franchise quarterback Brock Purdy. Throughout last season, he kept the 49ers' playoff chances afloat while stepping in for the injured Brock Purdy. He went 5-3 as a starter and finished with a 69.6 percent completion rate for 2,151 yards, 13 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Jones has been a trade candidate all offseason, but seems content to remain with the 49ersafter no deal materialized. He also got a pay bump for the 2026 season.
With training camp just around the corner, the grind of the NFL calendar will soon take over. But for now, Jones is enjoying his final days of freedom by letting his hair down, showing some high speed on pit road, and giving Niners fans a highly entertaining offseason highlight to smile about.
